Four brothers are champs

Matamata Chronicle - - News - By LAURA McLEAY

Four boys driven to succeed – dedication, perseverance and hours of training has led the Wright brothers to start fulfilling their dreams.

Louis, 18, is a cyclist, Oliver, 17, a soccer player, Sebastian, 14, a triathlete and Theo, 11, a surf life saver – and all are at the top of their chosen field.

In their Matamata family home, trophies and medals line the bookshelves and posters of favourite sporting heroes are plastered across the wall to motivate them to reach their goals.

Louis said getting to the top was about finding something in yourself that could differentiate you from the other 1000 people with the same ambitions.

For Louis, that was learning how to conquer a cycle race mentally as well as physically.

‘‘Cycling is not just about the guy who is the fittest but the person who is also the most tactical smart,’’ he said.

Louis is both. He has recently been selected as one of four New Zealanders to travel to France this year as part of a French amateur cycling team. He leaves on March 16 for seven months to cycle across some of Europe’s most beautiful areas – through France, Italy and Switzerland.

Louis, who has been an avid cyclist for the past six years, said he was very excited as this would take him one step closer to his dream of becoming a professional cyclist.
