Top bull fetches $9000

The bids were high at the Ngarua jer­sey sale last week. The Scott fam­ily from Feild­ing walked away with the top sell­ing bull at $9000 which will be an ad­di­tion to their 400-cow farm. Hamil­ton Fam­ily Trust, In­ver­cargill, bid sec­ond tak­ing a bull home for $5700 and BJ Shine of Dar­gav­ille paid just $3500.

The top cow in its prime, Mede­ley Park Box­ers Sheba VHC94, was bought for $3200 by Joanne Hamil­ton of In­ver­cargill. The top price heifer was Made­ley Park Vic­tor Carla, at $4100 paid by G Old­ham of Tahuna. The sale of the bulls av­er­aged $2536, the cows av­er­aged $1975 and the heifers av­er­aged $1900. The cat­tle were in ex­cel­lent or­der and sold from Kaitaia to In­ver­cargill.

The av­er­age was $600 up on last year and sold by PGG Wright­son on be­half of Belfield and fam­ily. This was their 58th an­nual sale.
