Farm shooting all for a laugh
FARMING is a serious business but it has its funny side, too. That is what Federated Farmers is highlighting in its first funniest farm videos competition and the entries are rolling in.
One of those entries is by former Matamata resident Andrew Wright and his mate Darren Elliott, entitled Farm Golf.
The two friends made the video on the Elliotts’ Wardville farm in February and decided to submit it when they saw the competition advertised in the Waikato Times.
‘‘Both of us were really into media, we both come from farming backgrounds and played a fair bit of golf, so we thought ‘why don’t we throw our three main interests into one?’’’ said Mr Elliott, who is studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in media at Waikato University.
Mr Wright, who is a production engineer at MediaWorks in Invercargill having completed a radio course at Wintec, said they shot the video to make people laugh.
‘‘One day when Darren’s parents were out, we just filmed ourselves playing golf around the farm and I slapped all the footage together on my laptop.’’ Federated Farmers chief executive Conor English said the competition was a chance to showcase farming’s lighter side.
‘‘We figure there are enough people with funny videos floating around on digital cameras, phones and laptops.
‘‘The winner will get a brand spanking new iPad 2 to play around with and that’s not a prize to be sneezed at.’’
Entries can be submitted through the Federated Farmers Facebook page, email or post and close on May 31. Visit www.fedfarm.org.nz for more details.
