40kmh zones in place

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Forty kms an hour speed signs have been installed at Stanley Avenue and Matamata Primary Schools.

This speed limit will apply for 35 minutes before the start of school and for 20 minutes after school.

The usual 50kmh speed limit will apply outside these times.

It’s important to encourage children to walk or cycle to school (rather than being driven) and the new variable speed limit aims to make the school area safer for these children.

Stanley Avenue and Matamata Primary Schools were chosen for the variable speed limit following an assessment to identify safety priorities.

Te Aroha Primary School and Matamata College have also been identified as high priority sites and will be issued with active school signs which light up to alert drivers they are entering a school zone.

Signs will have flashing lights in the high-risk periods before and after school.
