Team second on table
Matamata College U14 A rugby team has had a steady season so far, beginning on on May 21 with a good win over Cambridge.
The team has a further nine games before the semi-finals on August 13.
Some of the team played together at intermediate school and two of the players travel from Waitoa as their school didn’t have the numbers to make up a team.
Team manager Eve Clutterbuck said it was nice they could play for the college team.
The team is competing in the Steve Gordon Shield against nine other teams and are sitting second on the table.
Miss Clutterbuck said she was confident of more wins as the team had been training hard.
She said the team would like to thank coaches, Bevo and Des Tuhakaraina for their time, along with the support of the players’ parents, in particular Harley Underwood.
‘‘ We couldn’t have done this without them. They have helped with our success.’’
