Workers dig in to new sewerage scheme

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Construction of the Waharoa/ Raungaiti sewerage scheme has begun and is expected to finish in May 2012. Properties in Waharoa will be connected to the sewerage system later this year and properties in Raungaiti are expected to be connected early next year. Connecting properties to the sewerage system should improve the health of these communities as there will no longer be septic tanks that can leak or overflow.

Over the next two months, contractors will be installing a pressure main along Waharoa Road East ( the main road between Matamata and Waharoa). This is an essential part of the project, as it will allow wastewater from Waharoa to be pumped to the Matamata mains and on to the wastewater treatment plant. This work will cause traffic delays as contractors will be working in the road reserve. People are encouraged to be patient and drive with care while these works are completed.

The scheme is being funded through a mix of government subsidies and targeted rates.
