NZTA takes action to clear debris
Agency to fix the bridge for more than two years so last Wednesday when she drove over it, she was thrilled to see work being done.
‘‘I am just thrilled to bits,’’ she said.
‘‘I have felt as though I was just a recording for the past two years – no-one was listening and it was a very dangerous spot.
‘‘I still can’t believe something actually happened. This has been a project that I have been passionate about fixing for a long time.’’
Mrs Burr said a lot of the mess around the bridge had been cleared up and workers had dug drains on the side of the road to allow the water to run off the bridge.
‘‘It was at the point that I was ready to get out there with a spade and dig the drains myself so I am very pleased it is now done,’’ she said.
The agency’s network operations manager Alan Burkett denied they had drainage issues in the past but said they would monitor the site and carry out maintenance requirements.
