Agency to fix the bridge for more than two years so last Wed­nes­day when she drove over it, she was thrilled to see work be­ing done.

‘‘I am just thrilled to bits,’’ she said.

‘‘I have felt as though I was just a record­ing for the past two years – no-one was lis­ten­ing and it was a very dan­ger­ous spot.

‘‘I still can’t be­lieve some­thing ac­tu­ally hap­pened. This has been a pro­ject that I have been pas­sion­ate about fix­ing for a long time.’’

Mrs Burr said a lot of the mess around the bridge had been cleared up and work­ers had dug drains on the side of the road to al­low the wa­ter to run off the bridge.

‘‘It was at the point that I was ready to get out there with a spade and dig the drains my­self so I am very pleased it is now done,’’ she said.

The agency’s net­work op­er­a­tions man­ager Alan Bur­kett de­nied they had drainage is­sues in the past but said they would mon­i­tor the site and carry out main­te­nance re­quire­ments.
