Parents’ course offers free help for families

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Parenting is the most important job adults will do.

Many are not prepared or trained for the task.

The Incredible Years parenting programme is designed to develop positive family relationships, empower parents to make change and to manage difficult behaviour.

There are practical stepby-step suggestions in handling everyday situations parents face.

The weekly sessions take 14 weeks.

People taking part in the programme will work with two facilitators who will make contact and support participants between sessions.

Facilitators make contact before each course starts and will ask a few questions about any concerns over a child or children’s behaviour.

Those who attend the sessions say they enjoy working in a group situation and also the opportunity to problem solve and share together.

A course will be held in Matamata starting on August 18. It will run from 10.30am to 1pm at the Railside by the Green. It is free.

People can pick up an application form from there too.

Anyone interested in attending a course or receiving more information about the courses can contact Jeanette on 07 850 8880 or ring or text 027 479 8957.

Information is also available from the Ministry of Education, Ken Browne Dr Hamilton.
