At a meeting of the Lions Club of Tirau, local identity Christine Purdy was recognised with Honoured Membership of the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust.
The trust was set up to commemorate Lloyd Morgan’s year as New Zealand’s only president of Lions Clubs International and it benefits sick, disabled or distressed people in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and helps in the field of education.
Lion Murray McAlister spoke of Ms Purdy’s many years of commitment to helping people in the local community.
He noted that her efforts particularly assisted young people and anyone else who wanted to stay fit and active.
Ms Purdy’s involvement in the community includes roles in athletics, swimming, Girl Guides, netball, Playcentre and PTA. She is also well known for her lead role in keep fit, upright and active and line dancing classes.
Ms Purdy also spent a term as a Tirau Community Board member.
