Combined interests net winner for mates

Matamata Chronicle - - News - By IRIS RIDDELL

After much deliberation by the judges on the Federated Farmers Funniest Farm Videos Competition, the winner has been decided.

The winning video, Farm Golf, was submitted by former Matamata man Andrew Wright and his best friend Darren Elliott, from Wardville.

Mr Wright said he was very excited to hear they had won and was happy with their efforts.

‘‘ I definitely thought we had a chance at winning but to actually get the call was just awesome.’’

The competition prize is an iPad 2. The video will be screened on television.

Now, the only challenge is figuring out how to split the winnings.

‘‘I rang Darren and talked to him about it when I found out we won but we’ll have to see when it arrives. If I love it as much as I think I will, maybe I’ll pay him half for it or something like that.’’

The two friends filmed their entry on the Elliotts’ farm in February for a laugh, combining three of their interests in one: golf, farming and media. They decided to submit it when they saw the competition advertised in the Waikato Times.

Mr Wright is now employed as a production engineer in Invercargill, while Mr Elliott is studying for a bachelor of arts at Waikato University, majoring in media.

‘‘When I get back up to the Waikato for a bit at the end of the year, we’ll be working on a sequel: Farm Golf 2: return of the boot.

‘‘Look out for it.’’
