New avenue for funds

Matamata Chronicle - - Rural Delivery -

Community groups looking for some extra support can try the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund.

Fonterra Grass Roots Fund Community Champion Carla Gini said applications are open for groups seeking a one-off grant of between $500 and $5000 for great community ideas, projects or initiatives.

‘‘Fonterra has supported more than 600 initiatives in rural communities during the past four years through its Supporting Communities programme – now called the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund.

‘‘To make sure everyone’s aware of this fantastic opportunity we’re running the programme’s first advertising campaign,’’ said Ms Gini. ‘‘ We recognise the important role our rural communities play in helping Fonterra realise its potential now and in the future. While the Grass Roots Fund won’t be able to meet every application for a grant, it will give us an opportunity to support valuable projects in the community where we live and work.’’

The Fonterra Grass Roots Fund Sponsorship Committee will review applications for grants which fall into four categories – encouraging innovation and/or science, caring for our environment, bringing communities together and making communities safer. There will be three application rounds every year in September, November and March. Applicants have until September 23 to apply for funding for this round. Fonterra has supported a number of activities in the region including sponsoring the planting of 350 native trees distributed to the Waipa Schools.
