Four hurt as jet boats col­lide

Four peo­ple sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries when two jet boats col­lided head-on last Sunday af­ter­noon as they ne­go­ti­ated the Wai­hou River near Mata­mata.

The crash was at­tended by the West­pac Res­cue he­li­copter after one boater man­aged to get out of the river and phone for help.

Four of the five oc­cu­pants of both boats were in­jured and one was air lifted to Waikato hos­pi­tal in a se­ri­ous con­di­tion. Two of the other boaters in­jured were treated at a lo­cal hos­pi­tal but have re­cov­ered well and there are no fur­ther con­cerns for their med­i­cal con­di­tion.
