Christmas performance takes global theme
The Matamata Christmas Choir has been spreading the joy of Christmas through song for 50 years.
This year the choir will perform at All Saints Anglican Church on December 1, 2 and 3, with a matinee performance on December 4 and the concerts are free.
If you enjoy a good singalong or want to be part of something that is one of the lasting traditions of this town you might consider joining.
Matamata Christmas Choir president Lesley Johnstone said they usually had between 50 and 70 choir members and would love to see some young people in the choir.
‘‘We sing modern music in all different styles. We are not a church choir, we are a community choir,’’ she said.
This year’s theme is Christmas around the world.
Conductors are Grant Mason who returns this year and Angelo Samuels who will work with the Matamata Christmas Choir for the first time.
The choir is so popular that people from as far away as Auckland attend their annual performances. This year they will start rehearsals on Monday September 5 at 7.15pm at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
‘‘ You don’t have to read music and it would be really cool to see some new faces,’’ Ms Johnstone said.
‘‘Just bring your voice and a sense of humour.’’
