Daffodil Day helpers thanked
Once again I would like to say a big thank you to the people of Matamata who have so willingly supported Daffodil Day this year.
We certainly missed the beautiful daffodils for sale but must remember how much it would have affected the growers who were unable to supply because of the recent weather and frosts.
Special thanks to those who volunteered times and services to this day: Alison at Railside who made facilities available for our depot. Matamata Hire Centre who provided chairs to the sites in town. Aaron at Allied Security who collected donations and delivered them to the bank after the tellers had counted the money. Grateful thanks to the tellers who again worked well this year.
It was lovely that a few people who did have daffodils flowering chose to offer them, pick them and bring them in town. I’m sure they were appreciated by those who bought them.
A few things that put a smile on my face: The young woman who offered to collect donations in Firth St as she took her daughter for a walk. The gentleman who asked his neighbour to deliver a container of coins he had been saving. The willing volunteers who sit at a table in the street for an hour or two (despite a cool breeze sometimes).
And a certain gentleman wearing a smart suit, a yellow plastic hat and yellow fairy wings who walked the town into businesses etc and collected heaps of dollars. Well done.
So maybe there wasn’t so much colour this year and the total may be down but when I’ve been asked if I had a good day, I had to answer ‘‘yes I did’’, because of you good people.
Thank you Matamata. Your kindness and generosity will help give hope to many.
