Appeal offers kids new futures
Matamata resident Joanne Walker wants to do her bit for the Fresh Futures Kids Hospital Appeal which raises funds for children’s hospital wards around New Zealand.
Mrs Walker is a checkout operator and shift supervisor at Matamata Countdown and said if people had been there lately, they would have noticed a lot was happening.
‘‘There have been cake stalls, raffles, sausage sizzles and more. There’s also the knitting that is starting to come in for newborn babies.’’
In the last four years Countdown has raised $3.8 million for children’s hospital wards throughout New Zealand with the Fresh Futures appeal.
All funds excluding GST and Government levies go to the hospitals.
This year fundraising will go towards brain monitors for newborns, smart monitors to measure heart rates, respiration, oxygen and saturation levels and Neopuffs which is the safest method of resuscitation for infants.
Progressive staff from supermarkets, distribution centres and support offices will conduct major fundraising activities for the appeal.
The appeal is an excellent way to make a meaningful contribution, often in ways that bring communities together.
Mrs Walker plans to have a stall at the Matamata Market and Craft Fair this month and would appreciate it, if people would like to donate an item no longer wanted or use for her to sell at the the market.
Items can be dropped off at Countdown.
