Children from Rawhiti Kindergarten brightened the streets as they celebrated Kindergarten Awareness Week from September 26-30.

On Monday they went to the park with Mill Crescent Kindergarten to play games and they had a grandparents and special friends’ day where the children had a chance to bring someone special to kindergarten and show them what they have been learning.

Rawhiti head teacher Gwenda Smith said it had been a great week and it was important to raise awareness.

‘‘Going to the park was a fun way for the two kindergartens to get together for kindergarten awareness week and it was such a beautiful day,’’ she said. ‘‘ This week is about us being seen in town and getting people aware. We have had such an enjoyable time.’’

To end the week, Rawhiti spent Friday morning entertaining the locals outside BNZ bank on Arawa St with music – something they do every year.

They also had a window display in town to show what resources are used to teach the children. ‘‘ We also wanted to show the bicultural emphasis we have at our kindergarten,’’ Mrs Smith said.
