Carnival roaring success
From waiter derby races on Friday to Cup Day on Saturday and the A&P Show on Sunday, the Matamata Spring Carnival was a weekend jammed full of entertainment.
The festival started after a number of Matamata residents took the annual Matamata A&P Show under their wing and transformed it into a three-day carnival.
After months of planning, organisers Jan McIntyre and Jane Ewen were thrilled with the end result. ‘‘Everyone had a great time and it was fantastic because the crowd could get involved at the events,’’ Mrs McIntyre said.
Whether it was in the stiletto 500, the horse and jockey race, tug of war or the talent quest, many residents got stuck in and had a go.
‘‘We are so thankful to everyone who came out and supported the carnival. We had great weather and gate attendance at the A&P show was huge.’’
Mrs McIntyre apologised that the Story with Rory puppet show had to be cancelled after puppeteer Garry Snape came down with laryngitis last week. For more photos turn to P6. Also visit www.matamatachronicle.co.nz for extra e-edition pages.
