Fire crews fantastic

Matamata Chronicle - - Opinion/news -

Through your paper we would like to express our thanks to the fire crews and water tankers from Matamata, Tirau and Morrinsville who attended the fire at our property last week.

The hours of practice that our local firemen put in was evident as they speedily arrived and then efficiently worked together at the scene.

Responding to a callout from about 1am until 4am and then having to go to work as usual a few hours later shows a commitment which can only be admired. We appreciated their efforts to save the barn and contents, especially as when we arrived it was immediately obvious that our fire extinguisher was going to be like an Aussie supporter at a World Cup final, it looked the goods but was completely underpowered and overwhelmed.

We may have lost a building and some machinery but they can be replaced. We have had calls offering help from the local and wider farming network which have reinforced our belief that being part of a rural community is undoubtedly the best place to be.

Thanks again to the fire crews involved – we really, really appreciated your efforts.
