The (Art) Beat goes on

Matamata Chronicle - - Motoring -

The well-named son of little known stallion Dodger and Maria Dallas gained fame as the winner of the 1989 Great Northern Steeplechase – the second leg of a Great Northern double for his rider Toby Autridge after winning the Great Northern Hurdle on Noble Heritage two days earlier.

The big chestnut was spotted as a lightly tried five year old by Paul Moroney, who became one of his part-owners while his brother Mike did the training. Tumblin’ Down was retired at the end of a career that produced eight wins, initially being used as lead-horse for breaking-in operations at Hinuera Lodge and in more recent years as a schoolmaster for weanlings grazing at Seaton Park.

Smart race mare: Art Beat added another feature win to her tally at Rotorua on Saturday.
