Hobbiton invites locals to visit
If you Google ‘‘Matamata’’ the that pops up is Hobbiton.
Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours has put Matamata on the map as a major tourist destination and the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy continues to pump millions of dollars into the national economy. This doesn’t mean anything to a lot of Matamata residents, because they have no idea what is located at the bottom of the rolling hills at the Hobbiton Movie Set on Buckland Rd. That’s all about to change. On Sunday, December 18, the Locals Open Day will be held to showcase the won-
first word derful, fantasy world of the Shire.
A locals card can be purchased from the Matamata isite Centre for just $10.
The locals card is valid forever, with some special conditions, if you remain in Matamata and means every paying guest can be accompanied by a Matamata resident who will pay no entry fee. All that is required when purchasing your locals card is proof of residence. Hobbiton media manager Ian Brodie said this was a great opportunity for members of the Matamata community to be taken on a tour and see for themselves why tourists and die-hard Lord of the Rings fans from around the world, flock to Hobbiton Movie Set in droves. ‘‘The set is looking great. We would love to see as many locals at the open day as possible,’’ he said.
Welcome: Grab your locals card and get along to the Locals Open Day at the Hobbiton Movie Set on December 18.
