Vandals make a mess at Pippins orchard

Matamata Chronicle - - News - By BY LAURA MCLEAY

Pippins Orchard was left looking a little worse for wear after waste oil from a diesel engine was smeared all over the outside of the shop last week.

Owner Stu Broomhall said he left the orchard at 10pm on Tuesday, December 6 and when he returned at 6.30am on Wednesday, December 7, it had been vandalised.

Not only was the shop covered but his tractor had oil poured into the fuel tank, half the bonnet ripped off and wires pulled out. ‘‘They had also pulled the plugs out from the fridge and freezer,’’ he said. ‘‘It costs a fair bit of money to fix it up and our time. We feel absolute sheer frustration through someone doing something dumb.’’

The week before a bit

of stuff was ‘‘flogged’’ and the security lights unscrewed. Mr Broomhall said they have no idea why they have been targeted.
