Teen with a mission holds fundraising sale

Matamata Chronicle - - News - By LAURA MCLEAY

After a life-changing experience at Matamata Baptist Church, Casey Hennessy, 19, is on a mission.

She is trying to raise $6000 before January 15 in the hope to go to Ywam (youth with a mission) in Townsville Australia and complete a discipleship training course.

‘‘I’m going to Australia to do a bit a travelling but also to change my life around and learn more about my newfound faith,’’ she said.

But none of it is possible without the funds so she has started out on a fundraising crusade and is hosting a large garage sale this Saturday at 39 Tower Rd.

‘‘People have been so supportive of me and helping me out by donating things for the sale – it has been incredible and I want to thank them,’’ she said.

Last weekend, with the help of many from the Baptist Church, she put on a fundraising dinner for people in the community and she has been working to build up her bank balance.

‘‘I had always planned to go to Australia next year, then all this happened – I went to church and have turned my life around – and I found out the course started exactly when I wanted to go. Everything has just fallen into place so I know I am meant to go,’’ she said. ‘‘I am really looking forward to it and what I am going to get out of it. I want the old barriers broken down and to have a new start in life.’’

On a mission: Casey Hennessy, right, with Joy Diprose, who is helping her with her fundraising efforts.
