Despite rain battering the Matamata-piako area in the past week Matamata- Piako District Council is urging residents to start conserving water now, to reduce the likelihood of water restrictions being imposed this summer.

The council

recently

asked Matamata residents to conserve water due to damage caused by vandals at the Burwood Rd reservoir.

Work to repair this damage is still under way and the council is only just able to keep up with the current demand for water.

It is asking people to urgently conserve water, especially over the next two weeks. ‘‘As people take holidays we see a spike in water use,’’ said council’s chief executive officer Don Mcleod.

‘‘We hope that people can conserve water now to help reduce the need for restrictions.

‘‘We are constantly monitoring the situation and small efforts to save water do add up.’’

Keep an eye on www. mpdc. govt. nz to find out about the water situation and whether there are any restrictions.
