The Shire Store at Hobbiton was officially opened last week. There have been a lot of developments going on at the Shire’s Rest on Buckland Rd lately and the new Shire Store will house a reservation centre and stock an extensive range of New Zealand products along with Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit souvenirs.

To add to the rustic feel, there are panoramic photographs of the sur- rounding landscape on the walls and even a few of the Alexander family who own the property which were taken from their personal collection.

The opening of the Shire Store was attended by more than 150 people who enjoyed a close-up look at the new premises, a guided tour of the movie set and endless food and drink to mark another very successful year for Hobbiton Movie Set Tours. was there ...

Team work: Blaze and Ash Tanner, Neil and Sharyn Goodger, and Peter and Diane Jager from Matamata-piako District Council.
