$380,000 life­line to surf clubs

New Zealan­ders proved just how much they value the es­sen­tial ser­vice surf life­guards pro­vide when they do­nated gen­er­ously to Surf Life Sav­ing’s national ap­peal day, rais­ing $380,000.

More than 1500 jan­dal- soled surf life­guards, in­clud­ing lo­cal surf life savers Oliver Wright and Luke Smith hit the streets with col­lec­tion buck­ets on National Jan­dal Day. Schools and busi­nesses na­tion­wide sup­ported the ap­peal, rais­ing money by hold­ing events, com­pe­ti­tions, coin trails, mufti-days and sausage siz­zles.

The money raised goes to Surf Life Sav­ing clubs through­out New Zealand al­low­ing them to train more life­guards, in­crease pa­trols and buy equip­ment es­sen­tial to help­ing save lives and pre­vent­ing in­juries.
