For those of you who are keen to enter this year’s J Swap Matamata Chronicle Tower Run, here is an opportunity for some training in the lead up to the event.

The 2012 Tower Run, which is a 6.6km run/walk for adults and a 4km run/walk for children is on Friday, March 9.

Matamata Harriers Club and Tower Run organising committee member Kevin Guest said from Thursday, January 26, weekly training sessions would begin at 6pm at Matamata Primary School.

Guest and Steve Wenzlick will take the training sessions.

Routes will vary with runs to the tower and back, and runs mainly around town.

Guest said training sessions had been held for the last three years and last year about 20 people turned up.

‘‘People need to build up to the race,’’ he said.

‘‘You can’t expect to enter an event like this without doing the initial training first.’’

For the first time in Tower Run history an electronic timing system will be used at the finish line.

This system will be tested during the training sessions.

Runners, walkers, adults and children are encouraged to get along to Matamata Primary to take part.

‘‘It doesn’t matter what level you’re at – come along, have some fun and let’s get stuck into it and get ready for the race,’’ Guest said.
