Test move smacks of cost cutting

Matamata Chronicle - - Opinion -

Matamata Grey Power Association is making a strong representation to the New Zealand Transport Agency to have driver licence testing retained in Matamata.

This is a cost-cutting exercise by a government department out of touch with reality.

The stated reasons for taking driver testing to Morrinsville is that Matamata does not have the road complexity or traffic signals needed for drivers to sit the test.

We have taken our concerns to our MP Lindsay Tisch and will be making a written submission to the agency.

This is a major community issue that will affect us all, not just a few senior citizens. natural health products in New Zealand that as many people as possible make a submission.

It is very concerning that the tabled Natural Health Products Bill in its present form is rushed with lots of flaws and vague terms open to any number of interpretations by the regulatory authority.

Surprisingly it does not include most of the detailed proposals jointly developed by the New Zealand Health Trust, consumer groups and New Zealand natural health industry groups in 2009, which may be downloaded from this link http:/ /www.nzhealthtrust.co.nz/proposed— bill.htm.

So we need to direct the Government back to the joint industry statement (proposed Natural & Traditional Health Products Bill) and request that the bill incorporates all the original recommendations and details so we know exactly what we are agreeing to.

As modern New Zealand is a multicultural nation, it is important that the bill supports access to traditional medicines valued by different cultures, including traditional Chinese herbal medicine, ayurvedic medicines from India as well as guaranteeing access to traditional New Zealand Maori herbal medicines (rongoa).

Last, but not least, once New Zealand and Australia have developed the joint agency to regulate pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices, it is imperative that natural health products in New Zealand are regulated under a separate category by the New Zealand Natural Health Products regulator.
