Putaruru-tirau and other clubs ride to success at Polocrosse Carnival
At the Putaruru- Tirau Polocrosse Carnival held at the Tokoroa Memorial Sports Ground on February 4-5, an early frost on Saturday morning had players and supporters rugged up and looking for play to start so they could warm up.
The fields and the grounds were superb for the large number of teams.
Entering five teams the Putaruru- Tirau Polocrosse Club showed their strength by winning the first three grades.
The first team had good wins to retain the A Grade Fisher Shield.
In the second grade the club’s third team met a determined Temata team, who bolted away to an early 7-1 lead. Steely determination saw the players catch up to eventually win 13-12 and keep the Reynolds trophy.
The fourth team played their final against Counties and secured a convincing 22-5 win.
Within the third and fourth team were three youngsters from New South Wales who arrived in early January. With four weeks of riding, sightseeing and hilarity, all vowed to return next season.
Along with their playing commitments these young ambassadors teamed up with the youngsters, sharing their skills and knowledge.
The club would like to thank all their sponsors for their commitment towards prizes for a successful weekend.
