Matamata entrants in Dairy Awards finals
Finalists in the 2012 Waikato Dairy Industry Awards have been announced after the preliminary judging and people from the Matamata area feature heavily in the line-up.
Regional convenor Rachel Baker said competition for the final six placings was tight.
‘‘We had 17 Sharemilker/equity entrants, 21 Farm Manager and 28 Dairy Trainee entrants, all vying for the top six places in their category to progress to final round judging.’’
Finals judging takes place from yesterday, February 21 until February 23 to decide the 2012 Waikato Sharemilker/equity Farmer of the Year, Farm Manager of the Year and Dairy Trainee of the Year titles.
‘‘Feedback from the judges has been that the future of the industry is in safe hands. They have been really impressed by the calibre of entrants, what many of them have achieved already in their dairying careers and their enthusiasm for the future,’’ Mrs Baker said.
