Mata­mata en­trants in Dairy Awards fi­nals

Fi­nal­ists in the 2012 Waikato Dairy In­dus­try Awards have been an­nounced af­ter the pre­lim­i­nary judg­ing and peo­ple from the Mata­mata area fea­ture heav­ily in the line-up.

Re­gional con­venor Rachel Baker said com­pe­ti­tion for the final six plac­ings was tight.

‘‘We had 17 Sharemilker/eq­uity en­trants, 21 Farm Man­ager and 28 Dairy Trainee en­trants, all vy­ing for the top six places in their cat­e­gory to progress to final round judg­ing.’’

Fi­nals judg­ing takes place from yes­ter­day, Fe­bru­ary 21 un­til Fe­bru­ary 23 to de­cide the 2012 Waikato Sharemilker/eq­uity Farmer of the Year, Farm Man­ager of the Year and Dairy Trainee of the Year ti­tles.

‘‘Feed­back from the judges has been that the fu­ture of the in­dus­try is in safe hands. They have been re­ally im­pressed by the cal­i­bre of en­trants, what many of them have achieved al­ready in their dairy­ing ca­reers and their en­thu­si­asm for the fu­ture,’’ Mrs Baker said. Mo­tor­cy­cles NZ, LIC, Merid­ian En­ergy, Ravens­down, RD1, and in­dus­try part­ner AGITO.

The Waikato com­pe­ti­tion is sup­ported by re­gional gold spon­sors Aba­cus Group Ltd, Nrm/viterra, Black­man Spargo, Ef­flu­ent and Ir­ri­ga­tion De­sign, Sta­ples Rod­way, Sil­ver Fern Farms, Milk Bar, NZ Farm­ers Live­stock Ltd and Bell Booth.
