Prop­erty re­cov­ered bur­glary charges laid

Po­lice have seen an up­surge in ru­ral bur­glar­ies lately, par­tic­u­larly from farm sheds across Waikato.

As part of that in­ves­ti­ga­tion, Mata­mata, Te Awa­mutu and Cam­bridge po­lice ex­e­cuted a search war­rant on a Mata­mata prop­erty on Thurs­day, May 10. Po­lice re­cov­ered a large quan­tity of stolen prop­erty, in­clud­ing chain­saws, fish­ing gear, push­bikes, firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

As a re­sult, a 53-year-old Mata­mata man is fac­ing two charges of bur­glary and a 27-year-old Mata­mata man is fac­ing a num­ber of charges re­lat­ing to bur­glary and firearms.

Both men will be ap­pear­ing in the Mor­rinsville Dis­trict Court on May 23.
