Band plays on in honour of patron
Matamata Brass Band paid tribute to the late Jim Wheadon, who was integral in helping Matamata Brass find its feet again and served as the patron for 12 years. Matamata Brass won silver and took home the award for the most entertaining band programme. Hamilton Auxilliary Brass won the Pohlen Cup for D grade hymn and Te Awamutu Brass took home the David and Ruth Cochrane Cup for open grade hymn.
The crowd was almost spilling on to the steps of the Matamata College hall on Sunday when Matamata Brass took to the stage for the annual Matamata Brass Festival of Music.
