Cooks will be dishing it out at regional finals
Four future master chefs from Matamata Intermediate have been keeping busy in the kitchen in the hopes of winning the title of Maggi Kitchen Showdown Champions 2012.
The Matamata Maggi Magic team have made it into the Upper North Island Regional finals and will compete against 11 other intermediate teams in Papakura tomorrow.
The team had to develop their own signature dish using two Maggi products and submit the recipe and a photo of the meal to gain selection into the final.
Judges will choose one team from the cook-off to compete in the national final in Christchurch for the chance to feature on The Erin Simpson Show and win $5000 for their school.
The Matamata team is made up of students Sarah Dewhurst, James Raymond, Claire Baker and Leah Williams and will be making Pasifika Chicken Curry.
Team captain Leah said they have been practising hard and were looking forward to the competition.
‘‘We’re a bit nervous but we’re excited. We really want to win.’’
Food technology teacher Jasmine Trower said she was impressed with the commitment the students had made.
‘‘They have been in here practising once a week for most of the year. They’re really creative, capable and they have a surprisingly good knowledge of food. They’re also not scared to try something a little different which has made the difference.’’
