College makes premier pool

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Matamata College shut down Hamilton Boys’ High School Third XV’s attempt to make the premier Waikato secondary school rugby division.

The pool B final allowed the winner to advance to compete for the Ian Foster Shield and Matamata grabbed the opportunity with a 27-25 victory.

The final of three qualifying fixtures saw four pool finals offering four spaces into the first division of the Waikato secondary schools’ rugby competition.

In their clash, Matamata combined hard work among their back line with some flawless play from their forwards but with only minutes to go, and leading by two points, a penalty kick awarded to Hamilton Boys’ High School Three threatened their spot.

But the kick was astray, ensuring Matamata will play in division one.
