Asics to sponsor
Teachers, coaches and parents are encouraged to nominate talented young sportspeople for the Asics Sports Awards as organisers call for term two nominations.
The overall winner will receive an elite sponsorship package with Asics, following in the footsteps of athletes like Casey Williams and Isaia Toeava.
Term two nominations close on June 29 and are open to children in years 7 and 8.
The awards recognise students who have achieved outstanding results or who have defied the odds to achieve sporting success.
The awards, in their third year, were started by Asics to encourage young New Zealanders to get active and strive to achieve their sporting goals, Asics’ Jenny Holdaway said.
‘‘There are a number of awards focused on rewarding students at secondary school level but very few targeted especially to intermediate aged students. This is a crucial age where children are starting to get serious about their sporting pursuits . . . These awards are about encouraging and rewarding these students,’’ Holdaway said.
