New joint venture to share college talent
A joint venture between Matamata College, Matamata New World and the Matamata Chronicle is giving college students the chance to exhibit their talents.
A new column, College Cuisine, will appear regularly in the pages of the Chronicle, presenting a student created dish.
Graphic design students will be designing the column.
Home economics teacher Lynn Donaldson said it was a great opportunity for students to show the community what they had been working on.
‘‘ I think it gives them more confidence just to present their dishes in a really nice way.’’
Chronicle manager Milly Keys said the paper had always supported college gateway students interested in journalism; and this now gave students interested in advertising, graphic design and home economics the chance to gain some practical experience.
‘‘We value the relationship we have with Matamata College and this is a great way to showcase more of the students’ work,’’ she said.
New World Matamata is sponsoring the project and owner Ewan Atherton said he jumped on board to support Matamata’s masterchefs of the future.
