Fiel­d­ays crowds up on last year

Gates closed on the world’s fifth largest ru­ral sec­tor trade show with a mas­sive 128,271 vis­i­tors through the 44th New Zealand Na­tional Agri­cul­tural Fiel­d­ays. The fi­nal day saw 30,292 gather at Mys­tery Creek, 40 per cent up on the pre­vi­ous year’s Satur­day. Over­all at­ten­dance was a 9 per cent im­prove­ment on the 2011 event, leav­ing ex­hibitors and or­gan­is­ers ex­ul­tant with the past four days ef­fort.

Be­ing the fi­nal day of Fiel­d­ays, it also marked the close of re­main­ing com­pe­ti­tions. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Me­gan King of Tama­here, Hamil­ton, who was drawn the win­ner of the Fiel­d­ays Pro­gramme prize. Spe­cial thanks to prize spon­sors, Big Brand Leisure, who pro­vided the prize of a $10,000 lux­ury spa pool from their range of pre­mium spa pools. The win­ner of the Big Lit­tle Town Let­ter­box Chal­lenge went to Sue Han­nah of Te Aroha, for her let­ter­box cre­ation, ‘‘Earth Pro­duce Home Grown’’, earn­ing her a Suzuki DR200SE mo­tor­cy­cle cour­tesy of Suzuki.
