Fieldays crowds up on last year
Gates closed on the world’s fifth largest rural sector trade show with a massive 128,271 visitors through the 44th New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays. The final day saw 30,292 gather at Mystery Creek, 40 per cent up on the previous year’s Saturday. Overall attendance was a 9 per cent improvement on the 2011 event, leaving exhibitors and organisers exultant with the past four days effort.
Being the final day of Fieldays, it also marked the close of remaining competitions. Congratulations to Megan King of Tamahere, Hamilton, who was drawn the winner of the Fieldays Programme prize. Special thanks to prize sponsors, Big Brand Leisure, who provided the prize of a $10,000 luxury spa pool from their range of premium spa pools. The winner of the Big Little Town Letterbox Challenge went to Sue Hannah of Te Aroha, for her letterbox creation, ‘‘Earth Produce Home Grown’’, earning her a Suzuki DR200SE motorcycle courtesy of Suzuki.
