Police kept busy by weekend incidents
Overnight a house on State Highway 27 south of Matamata was broken into and a television and other electrical items were taken. A 42-year-old woman will be appearing in the Morrinsville District Court on a charge of shoplifting after being identified stealing alcohol from a local liquor store using CCTV footage. A 22- year- old man had his car impounded for driving while forbidden. An 18-year-old male will be appearing in the Morrinsville District Court for driving with excess breath alcohol. A 24- year- old man had his car impounded and will be appearing in court on a charge of driving while forbidden. A person was driving into town along Peria Rd when they flashed their high beams at a driver travelling in the opposite direction. This driver then turned around and followed the other vehicle into town. He proceeded to ram the other car on Elizabeth St, causing a moderate amount of damage. Police are following a line of inquiry in relation to this incident. The offending vehicle was reported as a blue station wagon and police are asking anyone with any information to contact Matamata Police. Shortly after 1am police investigated an assault after a bar stool was thrown at a person following an altercation outside a bar. One of the people involved had been removed by bar staff earlier in the night. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to this incident. A 26-year-old man was arrested for theft of petrol in relation to an incident that occurred in Waharoa on July 8 where petrol was stolen from a service station. Shortly after 1am a 21-year-old man had his car impounded and will be appearing in court for sustained loss of traction and he was observed by police doing a burn out on Waharoa East Road onto Broadway. Police were called to Burwood Rd after an American Pitbull cross escaped from a property and attacked a dog being walked by a woman. During the attack the woman was also bitten. As a result, both the woman and the dog received medical attention and the pitbull was put down by the vet.
