Po­lice kept busy by week­end in­ci­dents

Overnight a house on State High­way 27 south of Mata­mata was bro­ken into and a tele­vi­sion and other elec­tri­cal items were taken. A 42-year-old woman will be ap­pear­ing in the Mor­rinsville Dis­trict Court on a charge of shoplift­ing af­ter be­ing iden­ti­fied steal­ing al­co­hol from a lo­cal liquor store us­ing CCTV footage. A 22- year- old man had his car im­pounded for driv­ing while for­bid­den. An 18-year-old male will be ap­pear­ing in the Mor­rinsville Dis­trict Court for driv­ing with ex­cess breath al­co­hol. A 24- year- old man had his car im­pounded and will be ap­pear­ing in court on a charge of driv­ing while for­bid­den. A per­son was driv­ing into town along Pe­ria Rd when they flashed their high beams at a driver trav­el­ling in the op­po­site di­rec­tion. This driver then turned around and fol­lowed the other ve­hi­cle into town. He pro­ceeded to ram the other car on El­iz­a­beth St, caus­ing a mod­er­ate amount of dam­age. Po­lice are fol­low­ing a line of in­quiry in re­la­tion to this in­ci­dent. The of­fend­ing ve­hi­cle was re­ported as a blue sta­tion wagon and po­lice are ask­ing any­one with any in­for­ma­tion to con­tact Mata­mata Po­lice. Shortly af­ter 1am po­lice in­ves­ti­gated an as­sault af­ter a bar stool was thrown at a per­son fol­low­ing an al­ter­ca­tion out­side a bar. One of the peo­ple in­volved had been re­moved by bar staff ear­lier in the night. Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cir­cum­stances that led to this in­ci­dent. A 26-year-old man was ar­rested for theft of petrol in re­la­tion to an in­ci­dent that oc­curred in Wa­haroa on July 8 where petrol was stolen from a ser­vice sta­tion. Shortly af­ter 1am a 21-year-old man had his car im­pounded and will be ap­pear­ing in court for sus­tained loss of trac­tion and he was ob­served by po­lice do­ing a burn out on Wa­haroa East Road onto Broad­way. Po­lice were called to Bur­wood Rd af­ter an Amer­i­can Pit­bull cross es­caped from a prop­erty and at­tacked a dog be­ing walked by a woman. Dur­ing the at­tack the woman was also bit­ten. As a re­sult, both the woman and the dog re­ceived med­i­cal at­ten­tion and the pit­bull was put down by the vet.
