Locking annoys councillor

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

A Matamata-Piako district councillor believes security at the local authority’s Te Aroha headquarters is over the top.

Bob McGrail called the locking of doors at the entrance to the office of the mayor and senior management an affront.

Mr McGrail said he was embarrassed that the public was being locked out, when the council had tra- ditionally been open and welcoming to inquiries.

He could not see a problem with the traditional method where visitors registered at the reception area.

Council chief executive Don McLeod said the move was part of a trial by health and safety staff at the Kenrick St office.

The issue will be reviewed after the three-week trial.
