Six Beats Under is a highly anticipated cabaret show at Matamata College from August 22 to 25, and everyone involved is certain the event will be a great success.

The students involved in singing, dancing and playing instruments have been practicing for months and rehearsing late into the night, gearing up for the big performance in a few weeks time.

Organiser Laura Atkins cannot wait for the show and for the chance to show off some of the school’s great talents.

With 34 lead singers, dancers and band members involved, the lead-up to the performance has not been without its difficulties.

“I think the hardest part of this show has been scheduling practices around class time and teaching students vocals and music so they can perform artists they aren’t used to,” said vocal coach Kim BoltonHampton.

The cabaret is all about showcasing the students’ incredible talents, whether dancing, singing or playing instruments.

The singers will perform songs from deceased artists including Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston and Bob Marley.

“I can’t wait for this. I think the best thing will be performing some of the great legends’ songs, and performing for a live audience,” said cabaret singer Jordan Harper, who will perform as Donna Summers.

“We all want to say a huge thank you to Miss Atkins and Mrs Bolton-Hampton for their awesome guidance.”

Tickets to the 7pm shows are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Miss Atkins said it is a chance to see some great talent and that it will be an awesome evening.

“It’s been a team effort . . . I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do it myself.

‘‘I can’t wait to see the final result from weeks of the students’ hard work.”

Six beats under: Matamata College student Daniel Langstein performs as Buddy Holly ahead next week’s cabaret.
