Bringing musical history to life on big stage

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Buddy Holly and a host of other music legends could be found onstage at Matamata College last week.

Students from years 9 through to 13 performed as a number of late artists in a cabaret style show, aptly named Six Beats Under. Directors Laura Atkins and Kym Bolton-Hampton said the show was a huge team effort, with both artists and backstage crew putting in a huge amount of time and energy.

The sold-out crowd was almost spilling out onto the steps on Thursday night when reporter Nicola Stewart went along, and as one audience member put it: “It could not have been better”.

Talented: Wiremu Tana on stage as music legend Jimi Hendrix.
