Caring calf keepers
For the past few weeks, Zoe and Jacob Fouhy have pulled on their gumboots every morning and every day after school, and headed to a small barn on their Te Poi property.
The pair have been busy looking after their calves Izzy and Ziggy, who they will take to the calf club day at their school later in the year. Growing up on a dairy farm, they have both looked after calves and lambs before – and have the ribbons to prove it. In the months leading up to calf club day, they will spend time brushing, leading and feeding their calves, Jacob said.
‘‘You have to make them friendly by spending lots of time with them,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s good because it gives you something to do after school.’’
