A blooming marvellous day
Bright yellow daffodils could be seen everywhere in Matamata on Friday for the Cancer Society of New Zealand’s annual appeal.
Each year, thousands of New Zealanders get behind Daffodil Day to support the Cancer Society’s work and to raise awareness.
Proceeds go towards vital scientific research into the causes and treatment of cancer, as well as providing a wide range of support services, education and awareness programmes for those affected.
Matamata showed strong support this year, with some volunteers selling out of fresh daffodils as early as 10am.

Happy to help: Daffodil Day had extra significance for volunteer Karen Barbour, who recently beat cancer.
