The official Waterson’s 90th birthday celebrations were held at their super store last Friday.

Speeches were made by Graeme Waterson, who provided some information about the background of Waterson’s, and managing director Brett Watson, who spoke about the future of Waterson’s Furniture and Carpet Court. Fay Waterson presented staff with gift hampers for all their hard work. There was also an instore display of old ledgers, tools, photos and bedroom furniture.

The crowd was entertained by Matamata Brass member Jessica Schweizer, who played the flugelhorn.

The 90th birthday cake was made by Diane Norris and cut by 100-years-young Eileen Handley.
