With Christ­mas fast ap­proach­ing, Mata­mata res­i­dents have the op­por­tu­nity to reach out to a child liv­ing in poverty.

It is as sim­ple as fill­ing a box.

Op­er­a­tion Christ­mas Child is an in­ter­na­tional project where chil­dren in des­per­ate sit­u­a­tions around the world re­ceive a gift­filled shoe box at Christ­mas.

Kar­lien Loub­ser be­came in­volved six years ago when she saw the chance to be part of some­thing big.

“Even if you live in a small town like Mata­mata, you can make a dif­fer­ence,” she said.

“Most of these chil­dren would never have re­ceived a Christ­mas present and this small act of kind­ness shows them that some­one, some­where, cares about them.”

This is the sec­ond time Mrs Loub­ser will act as Mata­mata co-or­di­na­tor and
