Horses at Karaka sold ready to run
New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale of twoyear-olds is a leading source of well-educated, top performing thoroughbreds and will be held at Karaka on November 20 and 21.
The source of nine individual Group I winners in the past five years, the Ready to Run Sale has proven a model of consistency, producing an average of 14 individual stakes winners per season for the pst five seasons, making it the most successful sale of twoyear-olds in Australasia.
The sale has also seen a number of graduates successful in coveted Derby races. Since 2010 the Ready to Run Sale has celebrated six Derby winners headlined by NZ Derby winner Military Move (Volksraad), Queensland Derby winner Shootoff (Duelled) and VRC Derby winner Sangster (Savabeel).
This consistency of stakes success each season has been a big selling point for the sale and one that has set it apart as the leading source of top performing pre-trained two-year-olds.
This, combined with the distinct attraction of having the horses prepared and ‘‘ready to run’’ as soon as they leave the Karaka ring has meant the sale has always attracted a strong level of support from New Zealand buyers.
Last year local buyers spent just over $4 million on 72 horses, the most twoyear-olds purchased by any country at the sale.
This year’s catalogue has swelled from last year, with 407 entries across two days.
Among the selection are siblings to more than 30 stakes winners, including Group 1 winners Silent Achiever, Pasta Post, Green Birdie, Young Centaur and Gallic, and two- year- olds from Group 1 winning mares Deebee Belle ( Bin Ajwaad), Fayrefrom (Tights) and Miore (Crested Wave).
The sale also features two-year-olds by an expansive lineup of leading sires with 115 individual stallions from New Zealand and Australia represented.
Included in the Kiwi contingent are young sires Alamosa, Guillotine, Sakhee’s Secret and Sir Percy whose first crops are two-year-olds this season.
They are well supported by up- and- coming sires including Any Suggestion, Darci Brahma, Falkirk, Fast ’ N’ Famous, Iffraaj and Savabeel and proven Kiwi sires Keeper, O’Reilly, Pentire, Pins, Stravinsky, Thorn Park, Volksraad, Zabeel and more.
The sale will also feature some of the last New Zealand-conceived progeny of High Chaparral with six two-year-olds in the sale.
This year’s catalogue will also offer two-year-olds by most of Australia’s top stallions. The catalogue features seven two-year-olds by Fastnet Rock, five by Encosta de Lago with sires Bernardini, Exceed and Excel, Flying Spur, Redoute’s Choice, Starcraft, Stratum, Testa Rossa and more all represented.
The Breeze Ups for New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale have been completed and saw a total of 367 two- year- olds go through their paces.
