BOWLS

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport -

Matamata RSA and Citizen’s Bowling Club recently held its official opening day which was sponsored by Matamata Meat Co. The first kitty and first bowl were played by the two life members John Vossen and Percy Blyde.

The spider played was won by Graham Henderson.

Two games were played and the winning team was Danny Shelley, Wayne Gunderson and Dale Pollock and in second place were John Vossen, John Anderson and Bob Dijkman. Men’s Pairs Final Round 7 continued on Friday, November 2.

It was an overcast day to continue the pairs.

T Gray and D Doughty played W Taylor and G Allen.

P Coleman and C Dean had a bye.

It proved to be a closelyfought game that W Taylor and G Allen won on the last bowl.

Final: This game also proved to be a nail biter. At first, the scores were pretty close, then P Coleman and C Dean started to open up a slight gap.

On the final end, W Taylor required four to draw. With the final bowl, he picked up the jack and it moved to the side and suddenly he had his four.

On the extra end the pressure was getting to both teams but W Taylor and G Allen took that end and the Pairs Title.

Congratulations to Warren and Graham.

Good luck guys in the Champ of Champs.
