Pick up the ba­ton and join the re­lay

Reg­is­tra­tions are open for the Can­cer So­ci­ety’s 2013 Re­lay For Life. Waikato res­i­dents are urged to reg­is­ter their team to se­cure their place at the event which helps the so­ci­ety cel­e­brate sur­vivors, re­mem­ber loved ones lost and fight back against a dis­ease that af­fects one in three New Zealan­ders.

‘‘We’re cel­e­brat­ing 10 years of Re­lay in Hamil­ton next year, so if you’ve thought of en­ter­ing be­fore, this is the year you don’t want to miss.

‘‘It prom­ises to have all the as­pects that makes Re­lay so spe­cial, plus a few sur­prises,’’ says Waikato/Bay of Plenty Can­cer So­ci­ety fundrais­ing co­or­di­na­tor Marie van Eyk.

Re­lay For Life in­volves teams of 10 or more tak­ing turns to walk around a track for 22 hours, keep­ing their ba­ton mov­ing through the night.

The 2013 Re­lay For Life, which is a fundraiser for the Can­cer So­ci­ety, will be held from 2pm on Satur­day, March 9 to noon on Sun­day, March 10 at AgRe­search Ruakura in Hamil­ton.
