Bid for a seat on charity bike

Matamata Chronicle - - News -

A Christchurch doctor has come up with a unique and fun way to raise money for three New Zealand charities – and Matamata is in his sights.

Richard Steane has organised a charity cycle trip from Auckland to Christchurch on a three-seater bicycle, and is inviting local people along the way to take a turn on the bicycle.

The crew is riding from Paeroa to Matamata on Thursday, November 29. The next morning they will head to Rotorua.

Trade Me has come on board to run the auctions, so check them out and throw in a bid by searching ‘three seater’ on Trade Me.

Ride for a few kilometres to your local cafe or get dropped off to work in style, courtesy of some experienced and fun cyclists.

On Monday, Damien Laird from Superior Auto Painters was out on the streets of Matamata ‘‘doing something a bit different’’. He gave Broadway Hairdresser’s front window a Hobbitthemed paint job. Mr Laird said painting windows was quite different to what he was normally used to painting – cars. ‘‘‘You name it we’ll paint it’ is on the side of our ute so we had to stand by it when we were asked to paint this window. I have done quite a bit of airbrushing in the past and it isn’t too different to painting a car. You just have to know what tool to use to get the job done with the correct effects.’’
