Rose enthusiasts from across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty put their best buds forward at the Matamata Rose Show on Friday.
Around 40 exhibitors entered the show, with Matamata Rose Society member Irene Taylor taking the top prize.
Her Invincible red rose was named Champion of Champions and also won best red rose and Champion small stem.
Society president Sue Clothier said the show was very successful, with ‘‘quite a few’’ people coming through to see the roses.
‘‘ It’s been a fantastic show, the roses have been lovely and the exhibitors have been very good,’’ she said.
Kids were invited to enter the junior and intermediate sections with classes such as the vegetable/fruit sculpture and wild ment.
Show secretary Nicola Ryan said a lot of work went into putting the show together.
‘‘ I’ve pretty much lived here for three days,’’ she
arrange- said. ‘‘So many little bits and pieces go into making the show successful.’’
She is one of the youngest society members along with her son, 9-week-old Jack, who has already been to four shows around New Zealand.
