Take care by schools

Mata­mata po­lice are ask­ing mo­torists to be aware that school goes back from Jan­uary 29 and to take ex­tra care.

Act­ing road polic­ing of­fi­cer Tony Hawke said speed out­side schools and the use of child re­straints will be strictly en­forced.

‘‘We are just ask­ing mo­torists to be ex­tra wary when driv­ing around schools to en­sure the safety of our kids.’’

He also wanted to re­mind mo­torists that there is now a 40kmh speed limit past Hin­uera Pri­mary at drop off and pick up times.

Ryan Don­der­winkel has been wait­ing a whole year to go to school with his big brothers Os­car, 7, and Jack­son, 6. He got a new school bag and a desk for his fifth birth­day on Jan­uary 7. Ryan is go­ing to St Joseph’s Catholic School and is most ex­cited to learn to read.
