Take care by schools
Matamata police are asking motorists to be aware that school goes back from January 29 and to take extra care.
Acting road policing officer Tony Hawke said speed outside schools and the use of child restraints will be strictly enforced.
‘‘We are just asking motorists to be extra wary when driving around schools to ensure the safety of our kids.’’
He also wanted to remind motorists that there is now a 40kmh speed limit past Hinuera Primary at drop off and pick up times.
Ryan Donderwinkel has been waiting a whole year to go to school with his big brothers Oscar, 7, and Jackson, 6. He got a new school bag and a desk for his fifth birthday on January 7. Ryan is going to St Joseph’s Catholic School and is most excited to learn to read.
